Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Wednesday, June 22, 1977

Funeral services for William T. Oakland, 99, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. James P. Carcia officiating and with burial in the Blairsburg cemetery. The casket will be closed.

Mr. Oakland died Tuesday morning at Southfield Care Center where he had resided since March, 1976.

William T. Oakland, son of Enoch and Mary Marie Erickson Oakland, was born April 14, 1878, near Rochelle, Ill. He was educated in the district schools of Illinois and Iowa.

The family came to Hamilton county in 1887.

On March 25, 1903, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jaycox, and the couple farmed in the Blairsburg community for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife in June, 1955. Mr. Oakland lived on the family farm until 1974 when he moved to Webster City to make his home with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Oakland.

He is survived by his son, Lloyd C. Oakland of Webster City; two grandchildren, William M. Oakland of Columbia, S.C., and Mary Oakland of Des Moines; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, who died in infancy; his parents; one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Oakland was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational in Blairsburg. He had recently joined the Asbury United Methodist church in Webster City.

He was widely known as the first president of the Hamilton County Farm Bureau.
