Norman Struchen, 74 of Webster City, died Friday, August 14 at his home. Graveside services were held today at 10:30 a.m. at Cass Township Cemetery with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Post # 191.

Norman Louis Struchen, son of Carl and Harriet Johnson Struchen, was born Sept. 13, 1923 on a farm near Alburnett, Iowa. He attended Alburnett Consolidated Schools. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Air Force as a waist gunner on a B-17.

On July 27, 1946, he married Ruth Secrist at Cedar Rapids. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Marion. He also managed Goodyear Stores in Adel and Webster City. In 1958, he purchased Lyle's Maytag, and renamed the business Home Appliance.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Mary Struchen of Webster City; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Rick Gerber of Upland, CA, Jean and Tom Nicklasson of Webster City; grandchildren Jason Struchen and wife Jennifer of Webster City; Christopher and Andrew Struchen, Jayme and Lea Nicklasson, all of Webster City; great-grandson, Landon; brothers, Eugene of Marion, Don of Webster City, Jerry of Washington, IA; sisters Carline Skallerup, Morton Grove, Ill., Mary Kroeger of Cedar Rapids and Shirley Marsh of Marion; nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the National and Iowa Chapter of the 8th Air Force Historical Society, a member of the WWII, 96th Bomb Group Association, a former board member of the Webster City Chamber of Commerce, the Webster City Zoning Board of Adjustment, a board member of the Cass Electric Cooperative and a member of American Legion Post # 191.

Memorials may be given to the Hamilton County Hospice/Respite group, the Cass Township Cemetery-Avenue of Flags Fund or the American Cancer Society.
