Snowmobile-Truck mishap proves fatal
D.A. Hoelscher, Williams, is crash victim
Douglas A. Hoelscher, 27, Williams resident, was killed in a snowmobile-pickup truck accident early Saturday afternoon two miles west of Iowa Falls on Highway 20, according to the Iowa Highway Patrol.
Trooper Ken Stevens of Iowa Falls, who investigated the tragedy, reported that Hoelscher, who was on a trail ride, apparently came up out of a ditch and onto Highway 20 into the path of a pickup truck driven by Robert Hansel, 56, of Wadena.
Hansel was not injured in the collision, but Hoelscher was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ellsworth Memorial hospital in Iowa Falls, according to the highway patrol report.
The mishap occurred at about 2:10 p.m. Saturday.
It was understood that Hoelscher was riding in a group of about eight snowmobilers participating in a trial ride in the Iowa Falls area. Iowa Falls reportedly had scheduled a Snowmobile Fun Days this past weekend.
