William Greufe, 62, Blairsburg, died April 1, 1996, at Hamilton County Public Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williams, with Rev. Carl Recker officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, west of Williams. A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today until 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the casket will be taken to the church. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 191.
William Dean Greufe, son of William and Frances Engelhart Greufe, was born July 7, 1933, on a farm near Blairsburg. He attended a rural school and graduated from Blairsburg High School in 1952. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War in an Armored Field Artillery - Headquarters Battery. On April 28, 1956, he married LaVonne (Bonnie) Marie Rollins in Webster City. The couple farmed north of Blairsburg. He retired in 1989 because of health problems. They continued to reside on the farm.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Sheryl Greufe, Blairsburg, Randy and Sandra Greufe, Mark and Holly Greufe, both of Webster City; daughters and sons-in-law, Mindy Greufe, New Hampton, Denise and Craig Hughes, Webster City, Jane and Craig Peters, Blairsburg; grandchildren, Michelle, Melanie, Katie, Sarah, Joshua and Kaleigh Greufe, Chelsey Madsen, Cliff and Elizabeth Peters; sisters, Mary Ann McCoy, Orinda, Calif., Barbara Songer, Denison; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Vernon and Norman Greufe.
Mr. Greufe was a member of American Legion Post No. 191.
