Daily Freeman Journal, Webster City, Iowa, Saturday, April 27, 1968

Mrs. Meade (Emma) Hughes, 85, lifetime resident of Webster City, died Friday afternoon at the Hamilton County hospital. She had been in ill health for several years.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Homer Doak officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Emma Ann Busing, daughter of Hiram and Anna Busing, was born Aug. 26, 1882, on a farm near Webster City and was reared and educated in the Webster City schools.

She was united in marriage Aug. 20, 1901, to Meade Hughes and the couple farmed southeast of Webster City until 1911, when they moved into Webster City where Mr. Hughes engaged in the grocery and meat market business.

She is survived by one son and one daughter, Marion Hughes and Mrs. Jessie Doty, both of Webster City.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 30, 1963; by her parents; four brothers and one sister, who died in infancy; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Naber, and Mrs. Bertha Closz; three brothers, Edward Busing, Herb Busing and Wilhelm Busing.

Mrs. Hughes was a member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational.
