Herman Onken, 84, longtime resident of the Webster City community, died at 5:05 Monday morning at the Hamilton county hospital. He had been in ill health the past year.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Paul Lutheran church with the Rev. Arthur Oswald officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 10 a.m. Wednesday when it will be taken to the church.

Herman Antone Onken, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Onken, was born Oct. 16, 1877, in Bonn, Germany. He was reared and educated in Germany. When he was 14-years old, he came to the United States locating in Indiana. In 1900, he moved to Iowa, locating near Webster City, where he engaged in farming.

In 1905, he was united in marriage to Dena Huisinga, and the couple farmed for several years in Kansas, then moved to a farm two miles south of Webster City. His wife preceded him in death in 1933.

He was united in marriage Aug. 30, 1933 to Wendelena Remmers Lubbers, and Mr. and Mrs. Onken had always since resided at the farm home two miles south of this city.

He is survived by his wife, one step-daughter and three step-sons: Dr. Anna Slocum, Des Moines, Verne, Clifford and Elston Lubbers, all of Webster City; 11 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Onken was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Germany. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church in Webster City.
