Funeral services for Mrs. Wendelena Lubbers Onken, 89, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Ellis officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Mrs. Onken died Tuesday morning at Crestview Manor where she had been residing the past two and one-half years.

Wendelena Remmers, daughter of Peter and Anna Remmers, was born Sept. 27, 1880 in Piatt county, Ill. and was reared and educated in that community.

She was united in marriage Jan. 1, 1900 to Lubbert E. Lubbers, and the couple resided in the Bement, Ill., community for five years, then moving to Hallock, Minn. In 1907, the family moved to Iowa, locating on a farm northeast of Webster City. Her husband preceded her in death in 1928.

She was married Aug. 30, 1933, to Herman Onken, and Mr. and Mrs. Onken farmed for many years two miles south of Webster City.

She is survived by one daughter and two sons: Dr. Anna Slocum of Des Moines, Verne Lubbers and Elston Lubbers, both of Webster City; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; one sister and two brothers, Mrs. Mary Huisinga of DeLand, Ill., John Remmers of Cisco, Ill., and Henry Remmers of DeKalb, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dec. 25, 1961; one son, Clifford Lubbers who died Jan. 17, 1961 [he died in 1962]; by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Onken was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
