Benard Huisman, 81, lifelong Jewell area resident, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 5 at 1 p.m. at the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg with Rev. Bill Keller officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Grove Cemetery southeast of Blairsburg. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 4 at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.
Benard G. Huisman was born April 3, 1920 in Kamrar to George and Tina DeVries Huisman. He was baptized at the Reform Church in Ackley. He married Grace Roe in Oct. 12, 1940. She preceded him in death in 1956. In December 1957, Benard married Esther Halsne. He farmed near Jewell for many years. Benard was a member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg.
Benard is survived by his wife, Esther of Bethany Manor in Story City, two sons, Rodney Huisman of Chesterfield, Mo., and Mark Huisman of Nevada; three daughters, Karen Holt of Miami, Fla., Lois Jean McMorran and Diane Barkema, both of Jewell, 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Huisman, Melbourne, Fla., and Harley Huisman, Fort Dodge; three sisters, Lillian Slippy, Huxley, Emma Olson of Jewell and Treva Nicks of Unionville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Grace, a sister, Gertie Greenfield, and infant brother Harvey Huisman.
