Billy D. Smith, 68, Webster City, died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Rev. John Flaherty celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. A Rosary service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday followed by a Scripture service. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Billy D. Smith, son of Curtis and Louise (Williamson) Smith, was born December 26, 1932 at Boone. He attended Boone schools, graduating in 1951. He was employed at the Boone Dairy for several years. He served with the Iowa Army National Guard for several years. On May 16, 1953, he married Mary Helen Rea at Boone. The couple resided in Boone. In 1962, the family moved to Webster City. For 33 years, he had worked for the Sale Force, Inc., of Des Moines, retiring in December of 1995. The couple had moved to Des Moines in August of 1985 and back to Webster City following his retirement.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mary Helen; sons and daughters-in-law, Curt and Sharon Smith, Mike (Chubby) and Lanette Smith, and Billy Todd and Lisa Smith, all of Webster City; daughter and son-in-law, Luanne and Tom Tanner of Webster City; grandchildren, Jay, Janae, Cody, Courtni, Jennifer, Sierra and Jacob Smith and Jordan Tanner, all of Webster City; sister, Mildred (Millie) Smith of Boone; brothers, Virgil Smith of Boone and Jerry Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joan Hall; and a brother, Leroy Smith, in infancy.

Mr. Smith was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, former Boone Jaycee member, Moose Lodge, and a member of the Men's Bowling Association of Boone.
