Edward J. Wilmer, 65, Jewell, died at his home Monday afternoon. He had been in ill health for 10 years.

Death was attributed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Otto A. Zwanziger officiating and with burial in Evergreen cemetery at Jewell.

Edward John Wilmer, son of Edward and Katherine Veerkamp [Vierkandt] Wilmer was born April 26, 1917, at Woolstock and was reared and educated in the rural schools northwest of Webster City.

On Jan. 22, 1943, he was united in marriage to Velma Claude and the couple farmed south of Duncombe and later south of Dayton.

He retired, due to ill health, and moved to Jewell seven years ago.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Leo (Marie) Rude of Ellsworth; two grandsons, Brian and Brad Rude; his mother, Mrs. Edward (Katherine) Wilmer of Iowa Falls; one brother, George Wilmer of Alden, and two sisters, Mary Wilmer and Mrs. Orval (Betty) Ostebee, both of Ellsworth.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He was baptized in the Catholic faith at St. Joseph's Catholic church at Duncombe.
