Harry Claude, 84, longtime Jewell area resident, died Monday morning at the Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for the past 10 days. He had been in ill health since February.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral home with Pastor Otto Zwanziger officiating and with burial in the French Cemetery near Woolstock.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Harry Claude, son of Charles and Jennie Carpenter Claude, was born Oct. 1, 1900, on a farm near Woolstock and was reared and educated in that community.

He was united in marriage March 8, 1922 to Mabel Grace Mourlam at Webster City and the couple farmed in Wright county.

In 1948, the family moved to the Jewell area where he continued to farm. He was preceded in death by his wife on July 24, 1975. He made his home in Jewell, later moving to Woolstock. For the past three years he had resided at Bethany Manor in Story City.

He is survived by six daughters: Mrs. Edward (Velma) Wilmer, Jewell; Mrs. Henry (Arlene) Sandve of Collins, Iowa; Mrs. Arend (Betty) Jansen, Webster City; Mrs. George (Donna) Jacobson, Sauk Centre, Minn.; Mrs. Merrill (Lorraine) Hinderks, Jewell; and Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Briggs of Brighton, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Delbert; one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Viola) Matson; two great grandchildren; his parents, four brothers and four sisters.
