PASSING OF OLD RESIDENT

Mrs. Chas. Biernatzki, for Over Half a Century a Resident of Hamilton County, is Dead.

WAS EIGHTY-SIX YEARS OF AGE

Mrs. Chas. Biernatzki died last night at 9:20 o'clock at the home of her son, Chas. A. Biernatzki, at 600 Odell street. The deceased would have been 86 years of age at her next birthday, Dec. 18. Her death was caused by the general breaking down incident to her advanced years. She had been confined to her bed since the fifth of the present month but her mind was remarkably clear to the last.

Margaret A. Nowlin was born Dec. 18, 1823, in the county of Carlow, Ireland. She was united in marriage with Chas. Biernatzki on Sept. 21, 1850, at Oswego, N.Y. The family came to Hamilton county in 1858, arriving here on June 6th of that year, and Mrs. Biernatzki had made her home here continuously since that date - a period of over half a century. Mrs. Biernatzki was the mother of four sons and one daughter - Mrs. Chas. Closz, Chas. A and Wm. J Biernatzki, of this city, A. C. Biernatzki of Salem, S.D.; and Henry N., who died March 18, 1893. The father joined the silent majority on August 15, 1896, since which time the mother had made her home with her son, Chas. A.

Mrs. Biernatzki, having come to Hamilton county in 1858, was familiar with the many hardships and sacrifices made by the pioneer settlers in this vicinity in those early days. For many years the family resided on a farm south of this city and the deceased was well acquainted with the pioneer residents of Hamilton county as well as many of the later comers. Mrs. Biernatzki was a most excellent woman and leaves the record of a useful, well spent and exemplary life as a heritage to the children who are left to mourn her taking away.

The funeral service will be held at the Catholic church tomorrow morning, conducted by Rev. Father Norton. Solemn Requiem High Mass will be said at 10 o'clock.

[her headstone at Calvary Cemetery, Webster City, says she died in 1910 but this was taken from a 1909 newspaper]
