Mary Jo Ytzen passed away Sun., Jan. 3, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. There will be a memorial service at Lutheran Church of Hope at 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 9.

Mary Jo was born to Orpha and Dean Peterson of Jewell, Iowa on Dec. 27, 1953. She graduated from South Hamilton High School. She attended ISU, then Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing. On Oct. 3, 1981, Mary Jo married Jim Ytzen. They had 3 daughters: Amanda, Abby and Andrea.

After raising her family, she completed her B.A. in Business Administration from William Penn University. She felt God calling her to become a Nurse Practitioner because she was passionate about women's health and serving in rural Iowa. She graduated from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing, with a M.S. in Nurse Practitioner. Until her retirement, Mary Jo was a provider for Adair County Health System. Mary Jo was a warrior of faith and loved being a part of the community at Lutheran Church of Hope.
