The Daily Freeman JournalNadine L. Olsen, 84, of Stratford, died Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
A service honoring Nadine's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Nadine Lois Carlstadt, the second child of Ruby (Shueberg) and Herman Carlstadt, was born on the night of May 2, 1931, in Hamilton County, on a farm near Stanhope. The family moved to Dayton, Iowa. Nadine spent her 12th birthday at Camp Dodge where her Uncle Carlos was being shipped out during World War II. Nadine graduated from Dayton High School in 1949. Nadine married Jerry Linn in 1949, and the couple later divorced. Nadine married Neil Olsen in January 1955. Nadine had four children; Denise Marie born in 1952, Cynthia Renae born in 1955, Carla Sue born in 1961 and Ralph Wade born in 1966. Nadine enjoyed traveling with friends, gambling in Las Vegas and spending time with her family. She enjoyed summers at Lake Okoboji and later owned a home at Clear Lake, Iowa with friends. She retired in 1994, but continued to work at the Stratford Care Center where she enjoyed many friends and acquaintances. Nadine was a caregiver to her father Herman until his death from Alzheimers.
Nadine is survived by her children, Denise, Carla and Ralph; grandchildren, Misty, Molly, Christopher and David; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Kaitlyn, Gabriel and Henry; and her close friend James Bromm. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Renae, her parents Ruby and Herman, a brother Irwin Dean and a sister Delores Mann.
