CARL R. ADAMS, 56, IS VICTIM OF GRASS FIRE

Burns Prove Fatal to Webster Cityan; Suffered Dec. 12.

Burns suffered Dec 12 when he was attempting to extinguish a grass fire proved fatal to Carl R. Adams, 56, who died at 5:24 a.m. today at the hospital.

He suffered third degree burns on the right leg, thigh, back, arms and hands.

He was burning grass off a vacant lot in the 1200 block on Division street, preparatory to plowing. With a strong wind fanning the blaze, he was attempting to extinguish the fire before it got out of control, when his clothing was ignited.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at the Foster funeral home, with the Rev. Dow Crewdson, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be made in Graceland cemetery.

Carl Rhuben Adams, son of Jesse and Minnie Adams, pioneer residents of this county, was born Jan. 12, 1884, in the Pleasant Hill community south of here, where he grew to young manhood. He attended Pleasant Hill school and was baptized in the Christian faith.

He was married Sept. 30, 1908, to Eva May Riley and to this union six children were born, five daughters and a son. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mildred, age 8.

He leaves his wife and four daughters and a son, Mrs. Glen Seaboch of this city; Mrs. Melvin Hove of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Floyd Stopplemore of Blairsburg and Gwendola and Eldon at home. There are also five grandchildren and two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. I. C. Kemmerer of Boone; Mrs. Eva Beaver, living south of here, Roy, of Spencer and A.F. of Osage.
