Grant J. Whipple, 73, lifelong Webster City resident, died early Thursday morning at the Hamilton County hospital where he had been a patient the past three days. He had been in ill health for several months.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Paul Williamson officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Grant James Whipple son of William Isaac and Amy Elizabeth Smith Whipple was born Sept. 8, 1902 at Webster City and was reared and educated in Webster City.

On May 4, 1926, he was united in marriage to Margaret Viola Clabaugh, and the couple resided in Webster City where he engaged in construction work.

His wife preceded him in death in April, 1975.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters: Duane L. Whipple of Webster City, William G. Whipple, Burnsville, Minn., Mrs. Olaus (Gloria) Oppedahl of LaMirada, Calif., Mrs. Kendall (Kay) Klaver, Stratford, and Ronald D. Whipple of St. Charles, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; two brothers and six sisters, Walter Whipple and Lawrence Whipple, both of Webster City Mrs. Ray (Hattie) Harrison of Woodburn, Ore., Mrs. James (Edie) Shayer, Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Jack (Sue) Logan of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Clinton (Dora) Kersten of Woodburn, Ore., Miss Frances Whipple, Webster City and Miss Wilma Whipple, Westminster, Calif.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist church and the American Woodsmen.
