Jewell Man Hit by Truck, Fatally Injured

Iver Iverson Hit; Crossing Highway 69

Iver Iverson, 82, prominent Jewell hatcheryman, was fatally inured when hit by a truck as he was crossing Jewell's main street, according to Jewell's town marshal, Wendell Crowe.

Marshal Crowe said that Iverson was attempting to cross the street at the junction of Highways 69 and 175 in heavy morning traffic when he was hit by a truck driven by Loren Jacobson of Jewell.

Several trucks had been going along the highway ahead of him, Jacobson told Crowe, when Iverson started on across toward his hatchery building, stepping in front of Jacobson's truck. Although going slowly, Jacobson said he was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the aged pedestrian and could not swerve because of the heavy traffic.

The mishap occurred at about 9:30 this morning, Crowe reported, and Iverson was rushed by the Jewell rescue truck to the Story City Memorial hospital, 10 miles away.

Hospital officials said that Iverson was dead on arrival at the hospital.

Services for Mr. Iverson have tentatively been set for Saturday at the Bethesda Lutheran church. The body is lying in state at the Becker funeral home in Jewell.

Iver Iverson, son of Knut and Julia Iverson, was born Feb.7, 1881, at Lee, Ill., and came to Jewell in 1900. He engaged in the garage business awhile, then started the Iverson and sons Hatchery.

He was married June 29, 1910 at Bethesda Lutheran church in Jewell to Rebecca Knudson.

Surviving are his wife and five children, Kenneth and Richard Iverson of Jewell; Robert Iverson, Saugus, Calif., Oliver Iverson, Morton Grove, Ill., and Mrs. Lyle Espeland, Ellsworth; two sisters, Goldie and Ida Iverson, both of Jewell, and two brothers, Clarence Iverson of Jewell and George Iverson of Racine, Wis.

He was a member of the Bethesda church and was a past deacon and was treasurer of the building fund.
