Gary L. Walters, 67, of Webster City, died Friday, September 4, 2015, at his home.

A service honoring Gary's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, at Faith United Methodist Church in Webster City, with the Rev. Michael Slininger officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Webster City American Legion and interment services will take place at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at Van Meter. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Gary is survived by his wife Charlotte; daughter Dawn M. Fields, Miami, OK; his brother Edward A. Walters, Quinlan, TX; his sister Debbie J. Darnell, Carl Junction, MO; his mother-in-law Ilse Namanny, Kamrar, IA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Edward J. and Jean R. Walters; his father-in-law Alvin W. Namanny; and his sons, Christopher Walters and Matthew Walters, both of Miami, OK.

Gary Lee Walters, the son of Edward and Jean (Graves) Walters, was born February 1, 1948, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He grew up in Decorah, IA, and moved with his family to Carl Junction, MO as a junior in high school. He graduated from Carl Junction High School in 1966. Gary served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1974, aboard the USS Intrepid, specializing in the electronic mechanic/radar identification sections. On November 29, 1980, Gary was united in marriage to Charlotte Namanny at the Kamrar United Methodist Church. They lived for a short time in Carl Junction and then transferred for his job to Denver, CO. They lived there for 24 years, with Gary semi-retiring in October, 2011, and moving to Webster City where they have since lived.

Gary had many hobbies and interests. He loved to do woodworking and had many projects over the years. He loved being outdoors. One of his main interests was to be involved with the fall harvest. With the help of friends, his wish came true and he was asked to help with their fall harvest in 2013. He got to be the "catcher" and was so nervous and yet he so loved driving that big tractor and wagon. It was his dream come true!
