Webster City Freeman, Wednesday, November 30, 1898

Bertus Wepel, an old-time and former well-to-do resident of Hamilton county, died at Marshalltown yesterday and the remains were today brought home to his brother, Heiko Wepel, at Kamrar, for burial. Mr. Wepel owned a farm many years ago near Kamrar and was for several years in business in Webster City. He was a member of the old firm of Morrison & Wepel. In later years he had been in Kansas and Nebraska and still later was a resident of South Dakota. Mr. Wepel had met with financial reverses and had lost about all his worldly possessions. A few weeks ago the family household goods were moved back to Kamrar and Mr. Wepel was sent to the soldier's home in Marshalltown to spend his remaining days. These were not many, as the sequel shows. Mr. Wepel was a soldier in the war of the rebellion, having enlisted in an Illinois regiment. May he rest in peace.

[burial at Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Kamrar]
