Webster City Journal, Thursday, May 6, 1926

Enoch Welp was born March 28, 1841, at Wymeer, Germany. At the age of 28 years, he came to the United States, locating at Freeport, Ill. In 1873 he removed to Hamilton county, Iowa, residing near Webster City and in the same year was united in marriage to Janna Boomgarden on Dec. 18 at Ackley.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Welp: Fred, Mrs. John Bergman, Lena, George and Katie. When in 1875 the First Presbyterian church of Kamrar was organized, Mr. and Mrs. Welp were received as members upon confession of their faith.

From 1896 to 1906 he served in the office of a ruling elder and remained a faithful member until the time of his death. Even in the declining days of his earthly life he spoke with great interest of his experiences at meetings of Presbytery.

Deep sorrow came into his home when on Feb. 17, 1890, the wife and mother was taken from the midst of her family at the age of 39 years. In 1879 the deceased suffered a sunstroke, the effects of which he bore uncomplainingly, to the end.

He passed away after four weeks of illness at the advanced age of 85 years, one month and one day. He is survived and mourned by his five children, seven grandchildren and other relatives.
