Ben S. Melling, 75, a longtime resident of the Kamrar community, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton county hospital. He had been in ill health the past year, but more seriously ill the past two months.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian church east of Kamrar, preceded by a brief service at 1:30 p.m. at the home of his son, Marval Melling, three and one-fourth miles southeast of Kamrar.

The Rev. Harold DeVries will officiate, and burial will be in the Presbyterian cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 9 a.m. Saturday when it will be taken to the home of Mr. Melling's son.

Benhard Severin Melling, son of Gabriel and Martha Melling, was born Feb. 25, 1883, in Stavanger, Norway, and was reared and educated in that country. He was 19 years old when he came to the U.S., locating in the Kamrar community.

He was united in marriage March 15, 1911, to Gertie Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Melling made their home on the Smith farm northeast of Kamrar for two years, then moved to a farm a smile south, residing there for 28 years. They then moved back to the Smith home place. Following the death of his wife, in 1952, Mr. Melling moved into Kamrar, his home since.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by one son, Marval Melling of Kamrar; one grandson and one grand-daughter, Bennett and Marilyn Melling; three brothers and one sister, Johannes, Gabriel, Lars and Marie Melling, all living in Norway; also a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Melling was an active member of the Presbyterian church at Kamrar.
