Jewell Record, Thursday, July 23, 1908

Jacob Greenfield, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Greenfield, died at the parental home Friday, July 17, after but three day's sickness from appendicitis. The young man was about eighteen years of age, having been born July 27, 1890. A year ago last winter he attended school at J.L.C. and won the esteem of all his classmates and teachers by his numerous traits of manly character. He returned this spring from Dubuque where he attended the German college. The deceased young man was an unusually promising youth and his untimely death comes as a severe blow to the bereaved parents. The body was buried in the German cemetery Monday, the funeral services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. Muller, assisted by Rev. Steffens of the German college, in Dubuque which he attended the past year. The Record joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved family in this affliction.
