Thora E. Furman, 85, of Ames, a former Kamrar resident, died Sunday morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where she had been a patient for four days.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Ward Malloy officiating and with burial in the Presbyterian cemetery in Kamrar.

Thora Emelie Christenson, dauhter of Samuel and Christine Christenson Christenson, was born June 25, 1899 at Jewell and received her education there.

She attended Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls and taught at Farnhamville, Elk Horn and several rural schools in Iowa.

On Dec. 18, 1933 she was united in marriage to Howard A. Furman at Steven's Point, Wis. The couple resided near Kamrar where they farmed.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1940, and she continued to reside in the Webster City-Jewell area.

She is survived by one son and four daughters, Gary Furman of Zimmerman, Minn., Mrs. William (Mary) Hanke of Ames, Mrs. Richard (Jane) Baldus of Jewell, and Mrs. Richard (Gretchen) Zickenfoose of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Irving (Sarah) Egeland of Ankeny, and a step-son, Jimmy Dean Furman of Houston, Texas; 23 grandchidren; 5 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Thurber (Esther) Curran of Webster City and one brother, Arthur Christenson of LaMesa, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Danish Lutheran church at Jewell.
