Ronald Dean Burgin, 71, of Rock Hill, South Carolina passed away at the Wayne T Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 after a lengthy illness of Lewy Body Dementia.

He was the eldest son of LeRoy and Zelpha Burgin of Webster City, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his son, Troy Ronald Burgin and his parents LeRoy and Zelpha Burgin.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene Tipping Burgin; his daughter Teresa Stern of Harrisburg, North Carolina and three grandchildren; Taryn, Deven and Brennon; brother Gary Burgin and sister-in-law Rolanda of Webster City, Iowa and their family - Jody Koop of Kamrar and Jeff Burgin; sister Sue Burtnett and brother-in-law Doug of Webster City, Iowa and their son Brad and family; Shane Burgin and family; Leonard and Carleen Tipping of Ames, Iowa; Frank and Leila White of Magnolia, Texas and Erv and Jan Tipping of Eugene, Oregon.

He graduated from Webster City High School in 1961 and furthered his education at the University of Iowa. His greatest passion was his grandchildren and flowers. He owned a greenhouse in Marshalltown, Iowa and moved to Rock Hill in 1999 working for the Winthrop University in the greenhouse until his retirement in 2010 due to illness.

He was a charter member of the New Hope Christian Church in Marshalltown and served as deacon or elder in churches in Iowa City, Iowa and Marshalltown, Iowa.

A memorial service is being planned on July 11, 2015 at the Winthrop University.

The family ask that you direct your donations to a local Alzheimer's organization, Hospice organization or donation of your choice.

Mr. Burgin generously donated his body to help further medical education via the Gift of Body Donation Program at USC School of Medicine.
