Ruth Rykhus, 90, of Fort Dodge passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Marian Home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family.

Ruth is survived by her sisters, Donna (Don) Williams of Williams; Beverly LaSourd of Arlington, TX; four nephews; five nieces; and several grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Helen (Reisch) Rykhus; brother, Tom Rykhus; sister, Doris Rykhus and niece, Cheryl Copp.

Ruth was born March 25, 1925 in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1944. She then went to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Nursing School and graduated in 1947. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1961 from the University of Omaha. Ruth worked as a Registered Nurse for 47 years, caring for the sick. She worked at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge at first and then moved to Des Moines, where she took great pride in working for the VA Hospital. She then moved to Omaha. While receiving her degree through night classes, Ruth worked as a staff nurse on the medical ward at the Omaha Veterans Hospital. She retired in 1980 and returned to Fort Dodge to care for her mother. She worked for Friendship Haven part time and finally fully retired from nursing in 1992. Ruth was a member of the Holy Trinity Parish, attending Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of the Rosary Society and the League of Mary.
