Alma Rethman, 76, Walnut, Calif., a former Stanhope resident, died Thursday morning, Oct. 11, at the Brea Community Hospital in Brea, Calif. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope, Rev. Neal Solomonson officiating. Burial will be in the Lawn Hill Cemetery, southeast of Stanhope. Visitation at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday until 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Alma Marie Hove, daughter of Peter and Florence (Miller) Hove, was born May 6, 1914, on a farm near Stanhope. She received her education in Stahope. She married Oliver Rethman on March 12, 1936, and the couple resided in Stanhope.

Mrs. Rethman was employed at the turkey processing plant in Ellsworth, and in 1967, the couple moved to Longmont, Colo., where both were employed at a turkey processing plant there until 1979, when they moved to Roland Heights, Calif. They moved to Mira Loma, Calif., in 1984. Mrs. Rethman was preceded in death by her husband in December 1986. She moved back to Roland Heights in 1987, and moved to a care center in Walnut in May 1990.

She is survived by seven grandchildren: Richard Rethman, Eagle Grove; Kimra Larson, Webster City; Debra Brownfield, Des Moines; Dianne Iannone, Orange, Calif.; Alan Olson, with NATO in Germany; and Jeffrey and Jolayne Olson, both of Roland Heights; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Albert Hove, Story City; a sister, Lenora Ebersole, Branson, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Janice Minarisch, Windsor Heights; and a son-in-law, Wesley Olson, Roland Heights.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Randall Rethman; a daughter, Marlys Olson; her parents; and a brother.

Mrs. Rethman was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Roland Heights, where she participated in various church activities.
