Athol (Art) Bain Cuckie, 95, of Fort Dodge passed away on March 25, 2015 at FD Villa Care. Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge on Monday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be at Gunderson's Funeral home on Sunday March 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. A family committal will be at North Lawn Cemetery following the service and time of fellowship.

Athol was born November 29, 1919 at Brookline, Mo. to George and Mary Laing Cuckie. The family moved to Wisconsin and later to Iowa, living in Humboldt and Webster Counties. As a boy Athol lived on the Mill Farm at Dakota City, the Rosedale Farm at Fort Dodge and graduated from Burnside High School in 1938.

Athol and Doris Marie Thomas of Fort Dodge were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge November 27, 1943. Two daughters were born to this marriage, Karen and Ann.

Athol and Doris farmed in the Duncombe area for 40 years before retiring to Fort Dodge in 1985. Athol loved being a farmer, but his livestock were his passion. He had a herd of registered Shorthorn cattle and herd of Purebred Duroc hogs. From these herds came several animals that topped the breed sales or were winners in the county and state show rings.

Athol was involved in the community as a 4-H club Leader of the Washington Winners 4-H Club, Webster County Extension Council, Webster County Agricultural Association, and served on the Washington Township School Board as Director of Washington #10. In retirement he enjoyed becoming a member of the Fort Dodge Golden "K" Kiwanis and their many community activities. He was a long time member of Webster County Farm Bureau, Iowa Farm Business Association, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Fort Dodge for 80 years at the time of his death.

Athol is survived by his daughters; Karen (Denny) Amman of Fort Dodge and Ann (Joe) Raschka of Andover, MN; grandchildren Scott (Bess) Amman of Williamsburg, VA, Molly Amman of Fredericksburg, VA, Jeff (Jessica) Raschka of St. Francis, MN and Chad Raschka (Sarah) of New Brighton, MN; great grandchildren Kaleigh, Courtney, Ethan and Amelia Raschka of St. Francis, MN, Clara and Joey Amman of Williamsburg, VA, and Zoey and Ramona Raschka of New Brighton, MN; brother John (Nancy) Cuckie of Conway, SC; sister-in-law Millie Kahilius of Llano, CA , brother-in-law Bob Thomas of Dallas, TX; nieces and nephews. Athol enjoyed several trips to Scotland, with Doris and his daughters, to visit his many cousins.

Athol was preceded in death by his wife; Doris, parents; sister, Sarah Jenks, brother George, and infant sister, Louise.
