Former City Newsman Dies in Crash

Bill Des Jardins, former Webster City newspaperman, was one of four men killed Thursday after a U.S. army helicopter crashed into a lake northwest of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Des Jardins was a civilian employee in the public information office at the Air Force Academy. Other victims of the aerial tragedy were Max Keister, reporter for the Chattanooga Times, Lt. Kenneth Holt, Las Animas, Colo., and CWO Frederick Tate of Atchison, Kans.

According to the Associated Press, officials reported that the accident occurred on a flight taken to assist Keister in gathering material for a story on basic survival training which is being given new cadets at the academy.

Des Jardins is survived by his wife, the former Mary Rasmussen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Rasmussen of this city.

Mrs. Des Jardin's parents and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rasmussen have gone to Colorado Springs to attend funeral services.

While residing in Webster City, Des Jardins was employed by the former Webster City Graphic. He and his wife were visitors in Webster City only a week ago.

Graveside services for Mr. Des Jardins will be held at Graceland cemetery Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Scott officiating.

Jules William Des Jardins, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Elmer Des Jardins of Manhattan, Kans., was born June 17, 1923 at Clay Center, Kan. He was reared and educated in Kansas.

Besides his wife and his parents, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ronald Kull of Topeka, Kans.

Des Jardins Rites Here Monday Morning

Burial services for Bill Des Jardins, 38, former Webster City newsman killed Thursday in a helicopter crash near Colorado Springs, Colo., will be held at Graceland cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday.

The body will arrive in Webster City early Sunday morning and lie in state at the Foster funeral home until shortly before the service.

Both Masonic and military services will be held at the graveside.
