Karen Murray, 58, Duncombe, died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at the Israel Family Hospice House at Ames. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 9, 2001 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev Bill Kem officiating. Foster Funeral Home and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Karen Elaine Martin, daughter of Joseph and Helen Welch Martin, was born Feb. 12, 1943 at Webster City. She attended Webster City Community Schools, graduating in 1961. She worked for the Guthrie and Blackburn Law firm, Associated Group Agency and the Daily Freeman Journal before her marriage to Walter Murray on May 6, 1967. The couple lived and farmed south of Duncombe. They moved into Duncombe in 1977. She worked for the Kayser and Kayser Law Firm, and the Woolstock- Duncombe-Vincent Methodist Churches before beginning her career at Webster City Community Schools in 1983 in the business office. In 1994, she was appointed to the position of school board secretary-business manager. She was a graduate of the Iowa School of Business Management Academy.

She is survived by her husband, Walter, son, Michael Murray of Burt, step-daughters and stepsons-in-law, Julie and Steve Bissel of El Paso, Tx., Kathy and Michael Klein of Derby, Ks., Jacqueline and David Bishop of Lewisville, Co. and seven step-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two half sisters.

Karen was a member of the First Baptist Church, Webster City, and served in several offices of the church, the ABWM Circle, and Sunday school class. She was a member of the Iowa Association of School Business Officials. She enjoyed writing poems, creating devotionals and programs, loved traveling to historic places and in the Rocky Mountains.

The family requests no flowers and that memorials
be given to Exceptional Opportunities in Burt.
