DeVon G. Deakman, 65, longtime Webster City resident, died suddenly Sunday afternoon, being pronounced dead on arrival at Hamilton County hospital following an apparent heart attack suffered earlier at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational, UCC church with Rev. Alva Hohl officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery. Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home until 9 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be taken to the church.

DeVon G. Deakman, son of Henry A. and Hazel Groves Deakman, was born April 8, 1914 at Webster City, and was reared and educated in the Blairsburg community.

He was united in marriage April 27, 1937 to Ferne Arnold, and the couple farmed in the Blairsburg area, later moving to a farm southwest of Webster City. He worked as custodian at the Pleasant View school for 13 years until his retirement three years ago.

He is survived by his wife; one son and one daughter, Wayne Deakman of Lehigh and Rose Deakman, Webster City; one grandson and one granddaughter, Cody and Cally Deakman, a sister, Mrs. A. W. (Leona) Crystal of Webster City, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the First Congregational church; the Odd Fellows lodge; the Senior Citizens club and was an RSVP volunteer.
