Carl R. (Andy) Anderson, 80, of Ellsworth, died yesterday afternoon at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames. He had been a patient there since Dec. 27.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with Rev. Harvey Sigurdson officiating and with burial in Homewood cemetery at Ellsworth. There will be military rites at graveside. The body will lie in state at the Becker Funeral home until 1 p.m. Thursday, when it will be taken to the church.

He was born Dec. 27, 1896 at Callender, Iowa, the son of J. August and Ellen Swenson Anderson. He later moved to Gowrie where he farmed and the family moved to the Ellsworth community in 1935 where he owned and operated Anderson's Garage until three years ago when he retired.

He attended Tobin College at Fort Dodge and served in World War I.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and also the American Legion at Ellsworth.

He was married Feb. 9, 1922 to Lola Gorman at Fort Dodge.

He is survived by his wife; two children, Mrs. Dale M. (Norma) Thompson of Cedar Falls and Leland Anderson of Waterloo; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Strand of Dayton, Iowa, and Mrs. Evelyn Croden, Fort Dodge, and one brother, Henry Anderson, Fort Dodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Herbert.
