Francis A. Sanford, 75, Ellsworth, died Thursday, Aug. 23, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Aug. 25, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. The body was cremated, and burial will be at a later date at the Greenwood Cemetery in Ellsworth. The family will greet visitors from 6-8 p.m. this evening at the church.

Francis A. Sanford was born Oct. 20, 1914, in Armstrong. He lived most of his life in Ellsworth, but had also resided in LuVerne and Badger. He married Flora Heinkel on Feb. 25, 1937. Mr. Sanford worked as a self-employed mechanic and welder, retiring in 1977.

He is survived by his wife Flora, Ellsworth; two sons, Warren Sanford, Ellsworth; William Sanford, Story City; four daughters, Janice Chantland, Marshalltown; Diana Batcheller, Ava, Mo.; Nancy Sankey, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Vicky Sanford, Ellsworth; two brothers, Wayne Sanford, LuVerne; Robert Sanford, Carson City, Nev.; six sisters, Donna Hovick, Fort Dodge; Genevieve McGowan, Clear Lake; Velda Trauger, Livermore; JoAnne Larson, Badger; Jolene Wilhelm, LuVerne; Ramona Caudle, Ellsworth; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sanford was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.
