Orval Peterson, 61, a longtime Ellsworth resident, died Friday evening at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where he had been a patient for 11 days.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran church in Ellsworth with the Rev. R. D. Ehlers officiating and with burial in Homewood cemetery.

Orval Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence L. Peterson, was born Aug. 30, 1909 at Fort Dodge.

He was married Oct. 4, 1941 at Radcliffe to Avonelle Varland, and the couple resided in Ellsworth where he served as a welder for 23 years and was a security representative for 10 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and had served on the Ellsworth town council and was a member of the Ellsworth Businessmen's association.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Gene (Susan Kay) Olson of Des Moines and one son, Dennis Varland Peterson of Ellsworth; three brothers, LaVon Peterson of Radcliffe, Virgil Peterson of Des Moines and Wilbur Peterson of Palm Springs, Calif., two sisters, Carol E. Peterson of State College, Pa., and Mrs. Wylie Candor of San Diego, Calif.
