Carl John Thoreson, 90, was born on a farm south of Ellsworth on Sept. 12, 1875 and died at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames, Iowa, Feb. 18, 1966. He had been in failing health for the past year. Most of his life was spent in Ames and Ellsworth.

He attended Jewell Lutheran college and was in the automobile business in Ames for a number of years. For the past 40 years he was engaged in the insurance and realty business in Story and Hamilton counties.

In 1901 he was married to Anna Dorothea Olson of Randall.

In Ellsworth he was active in community affairs and served as president of the school board, and his interest in school activities continued throughout his life. He was also an active member of Bethesda Lutheran church at Ames.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Thoreson, and two sisters, Mrs. Bert Breade and Mrs. John Funk.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Thea Bolt of Arcadia, Calif.; eight children, Mrs. Hazel Sorenson of Ames, Leo Thoreson, Mrs. Lurine Monahan and Mrs. Mamie Hamilton, all of Des Moines, Curtis L. Thoreson of Palmetto, Fla., Wesley Thoreson, Ellsworth, Mrs. Florence Powell of Winter Haven, Fla., and Mrs. Anna Jacobson, Mason City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Adams Funeral chapel in Ames Feb. 21, with Pastor Severseike officiating. Burial was made in the Ames Municipal cemetery.
