Muriel Melling, 71, Story City, died Dec. 6, 1996, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Petri Lutheran Church, with Rev. Rolfe Johnstad officiating. Burial was at the Kamrar Presbyterian Church Cemetery, east of Kamrar. The Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City was in charge of arrangements.

Muriel M. Thompson, daughter of Thomas and Mamie Sanford Thompson, was born Jan. 27, 1925, in Ellsworth. She graduated from Ellsworth High School and Waldorf College in 1944. She resided in Badger and moved to Story City in 1974. She was employed as a teacher in Luther and Kamrar. On Dec. 31, 1946, she married Marv Melling.

She is survived by her husband, Marv, Story City; son, Ben, Leewood, Kan.; daughter, Marilyn Gallery, Hudson; five grandchildren; brother, Robert Thompson, Ellsworth; and sisters, Dorothy DeSimone, Rome, N.Y., and Thora Reisetter, Ellsworth. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Melling was a member of the St. Petri Lutheran Church. She was also an active member of the Sons of Norway and the Story City Literature Club.
