Falls 85 Feet From Elevator; Dies in Hospital

RANDALL MAN FALLS WHEN ROPE SLIPS

Was Painting Elevator Tower; Legs, Arms Broken, Body Crushed

NEPHEW IS SAVED

Devere Thompson Catches Rope and Saves Himself from Fall

Raymond Hanson, 31, [born at Randall, Iowa December 19, 1905] died at a Lake City hospital [June 11, 1936] last evening from injuries received when he fell from an elevator tower 85 feet to the ground.

The accident happened about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon and he lived until 10 p.m., although both legs and arms were broken and his body badly crushed and bruised. He regained consciousness once and recognized his wife, who was at his bedside.

Hanson was painting the tower when a knot in the rope holding him slipped, throwing him to the ground. In the fall, he struck the roof of a smaller building and then fell to the ground. His nephew, Devere Thompson, 16, of Des Moines, who was painting with him fell also, but was able to catch a rope and save himself.

Lester Henderson, Story City undertaker, will be in charge of the services. Definite arrangements have not been made. [The Hanson family is buried at Mount Olive Cemetery in Randall, Iowa and his headstone reads 'Raymon' Hanson]

Hanson is survived by his wife, a small son, his parents [Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Hanson], and three sisters, Mrs. Jack Paggett and Mrs. Roy Anderson of Randall and Mrs. Clarence Thompson, of Des Moines. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Mrs. Paggett and Mrs. Anderson were also at his bedside when he died.

Hanson was born and reared in Randall and was a graduate of the Randall high school.
