Death of A. E. Servis
Another one of Webster City’s honored citizens has been called to his reward, and today the once happy home is filled with sorrow at the loss of a kind husband and indulgent father.
After a lingering illness Mr. A.E. Servis departed this life on Sunday morning, the 11th inst. [Dec. 11, 1892], at his home in this city, in the 57th year of his life.
Mr. Servis was born in Crawford county, Ohio, March 17, 1836, to Mary J. Falen, of Brooklyn, N.Y., removing thence to Indiana. From Indiana the family removed to Nebraska, and later to Kansas, where they resided for several years. Coming to Iowa in 1873, they located at Webster City, where they have since lived, and where the deceased was widely known and universally respected as a good citizen and an honorable, upright man.
In the hour of his country’s need he enlisted, went to the front and served with honor and distinction. He was an active and honored member of that noble, patriotic order, the Grand Army of the Republic, and the large attendance of his Post to pay the last tribute to the memory of a beloved comrade, shows the esteem in which was he held as a soldier and citizen.
The funeral services were held at the Universalist church, yesterday, under the auspices of the I. O. O. F., of which he was a devoted member. Rev. B. F. Snook, assisted by Rev. Amos Crum, officiating.
A wife and three children, two sons and a daughter, are left to mourn his absence.
