Weekly Graphic Herald, Tuesday, December 20, 1892, p.1.
Col. Chas. Whitacre died at his home in Ames Sunday, Dec. 11th and was buried at Stratford, his old home, Tuesday afternoon. Col. Whitacre was one of the pioneer settlers of Hamilton county, coming to Hook Point, nearly thirty years ago, where he owned one of the finest farms in this part of the state. He was a man of much force of character, well educated and thoroughly posted on all questions, and was one of the most prominent figures in Hamilton county affairs for a quarter of a century.
He leaves a large family of children, all of whom are grown to man and woman’s estate, to mourn his decease.
