Peter Maxted, 85, Webster City, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at Van Diest Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Celebration of Life services will be held Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church. Visitation with family will be held the 2 hours prior to the service with Rev. Pam Thompkins officiating. Interment will be held at private family service at St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairiesburg, IA, at a later date.

Peter was born July 20, 1929 in Croydon, North Croydon, England to Horace Maxted and Mabel (Smith) Maxted. Peter attended various schools throughout "The Midlands" with his brothers David and Arthur leaving on the Ramsgate train in 1940 out of the bombing zone known as "Hellfire Corner." They returned to Ramsgate in 1945 at the end of the war.

Peter joined the UK Royal Air Force in 1947 and continued his Air Force career in administration for 22 years, retiring in 1969. He married Joyce King in October 1952 at Chichester, W. Sussex, England. They were married 52 years until her passing away in April 2005.

Peter moved to Iowa in 2006. He became a permanent resident of the United States in 2013. He married Elisabeth (Betty) Weber at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, IA Dec. 4, 2009. Peter and Betty enjoyed traveling together on bus trips and car trips, garage sales and telling stories about the years he spent living in Bahrain, Singapore and Germany throughout his military career. Peter had a great dry British wit about him and will be greatly missed.

Peter is survived by his wife Betty, Webster City; daughter Beth Maxted of Blairsburg; son Paul (Hazel) Maxted of Warkworth, ON, Canada; daughter Michele (Jim) Ayling of Yapton, W. Sussex, England; brother Arthur (Mandy) Maxted of Newquay, Cornwall, England; stepdaughter, Lisa (Jeff) Byal, Austin, Texas and stepson Greg (Marilyn Card) McConnell of Webster City; 10 brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law. He also has 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 52 years Joyce, brothers John and David, sisters Stella, Peggy and Molly.

The family requests no flowers be sent and memorial gifts be left to the discretion of the family.

Lunch will be served following the service.
