Cleo Brekke was born on December 3, 1933 in rural Stanhope, Iowa to Ingolf and Tilda “Tillie” Mare (Oppedal) Brekke. After graduating from Randall high school in 1951, Cleo was a farmer until 2008 and lived his life in the Stanhope area. Cleo married Margaret Mechelson on July 6, 1963. He was a member and on the church council for both St. Paul and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Cleo was a former member of Stanhope Lions Club, was on the board for the Stanhope Telephone Exchange and Stanhope Shippers Association and a trustee for the Lake Center Cemetery. He enjoyed going to the Chicago Cubs baseball games, family activities and family gatherings. Cleo loved farming and raising cattle and hogs and enjoyed going to coffee at Sparky’s and visiting with friends.

Cleo died at 80 years of age on November 11, 2014 at the Stratford Care Center, Stratford, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret; his son, Paul (Paula) Brekke, of rural Stanhope; his daughter, Andrea (John) Ingram, of Denison; his son, Tom (Amy) Brekke, of rural Stanhope; eight grandchildren, Nick Ingram, Rachael Ingram, Spencer Ingram, Jacqueline Ingram, Samantha Brekke, Benjamin Brekke, Malynda Brekke and Caroline Brekke; one sister, Orvella Batchelder, of Roseville, Minnesota; and two brothers, Donald Brekke, of Des Moines and Richard (Sandy) Brekke, of Boone.

Cleo was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Anna Marie Batchelder; a nephew, Adam Brekke; and a brother-in-law, Chuck Batchelder.
