Farm mishap proves fatal to R. A. Golden

JEWELL, — Injuries suffered in a welding type accident at his farm home near Jewell about 4 p.m. Saturday, proved fatal for Richard A. Golden, 49, prominent Jewell farmer.

Sheriff's officers and Dr. Walter B. Goff of Jewell, county medical examiner, called to the scene, reported that Mr. Golden was reportedly using an acetyline welding torch on a large drum tank which apparently had previously contained some type of farm chemical. He had partially filled the tank full of water prior to trying to patch a hole in the drum, but fumes still inside apparently set off a blast which killed him instantly.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Federated church in Jewell with the Rev. Tom Rehling officiating and with burial in Evergreen cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Becker Funeral home until 1 p.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church.

Richard Aaron Golden, son of Aaron and Gertrude Uline Golden, was born at Bayard, Iowa but had resided in the Jewell community since 1937. In addition to farming, he had operated an upholstery business.

He is survived by one son, Dennis Richard Golden of Jewell, and a daughter, Mrs. Roger (Linda Sue) Heinrich of Webster City, three grandchildren, Lee Roger Heinrich and Merideth Kaye Heinrich and Deneille Diane Golden; two brothers, Gilbert of Gary, Ind., and Ralph of Jewell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Maurice.
