Bancroft Register 12-15-1971 Died 12-11-1971 Sara Newton of Swea City dies Saturday
Funeral services for Mrs. Sara Newton, 86, of Swea City were at 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Swea City with burial in Greenwood Township Cemetery of Bancroft.
Mrs. Newton died following a heart attack Saturday at Heritage Home in Bancroft.
Mrs. Newton was born Sara McFarland Feb. 9, 1885 at Norkota, Kansas. She came to Iowa in 1903 and was married to David Burnett August 26, 1903 at Stanhope, Iowa. He died Feb. 15, 1942. She married Frank Newton Dec 9, 1947 at Webster City, he died Dec. 17, 1952.
Survivors include two daughters and two sons. Mrs. Olive Dontje and John Burnett, both of Swea City. Mrs. Vern VanWey of Exeland, Wisc. and Melvin Burnett of Webster City, Iowa. 15 grandchildren; 43 great-grand-children; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; a brother and a sister, Robert McFarland of Duenweg, MO. and Mrs. Antone Adams of Motley, Minn.
Six grandsons served as pallbearers including Henry E. Dontje, August F. Dontje, David N. Dontje, Leonard VanWey, Darrell VanWey and Allan Montgomery. The Garry Funeral Home of Bancroft was in charge of arrangements.
