Dolores Jean Ladd, 90, of Webster City, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at Crestview Manor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 8th at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Bibb officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery.

Dolores Jean Sterling was born August 4, 1920 to her parents Paul and Mae Arnold Sterling in Webster City, IA. She and her half brother, Darol Sterling, lived on a farm south of Beach Street during her early childhood. She attended Parochial school at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for three years before changing to a country school. She attended several high schools but graduated in 1936 from Mountain Grove High School in Mountain Grove, MO. She became a cosmetologist after graduating from Pitze's School of Cosmetology at Waterloo, IA.

In 1938, she met her husband, Robert Ladd and on July 4, 1939 they were married. Their daughter, Sally, was born in 1940. Mr. Ladd operated a grocery store and meat locker business in New Sharon, IA until 1953. At that time the family of three moved to a farm five miles south of Webster City and Mr. Ladd began a new occupation in farming.

The Ladd family joined the Asbury Methodist church upon their arrival to Webster City and Dolores became involved in the United Methodist Women organization, taught Sunday school for several years and later in 1967 until 1977 was a secretary at the church.

Dolores was a member of Chapter NR of the P.E.O. sisterhood and served as an officer several years. She loved playing bridge, sewing, decorating her homes, entertaining friends and family, and most of all bestowing affection on her family.

Those surviving her include her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Richard Wilson of Ames, her grandson, Jeffrey (Marcia) Wilson of San Antonio, TX and grand-daughter, Sarah (Jeremy) Buckels of Ames. Her surviving great grandchildren are Kara (Cory) Thomas of Pleasant Hill, Joshua Robert Wilson of Bondurant, Zachary Anderson and Hannah Buckels of Ames, and also great great granddaughter, Lilly Thomas of Pleasant Hill. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Barbara (Ray) Simpson of Kellogg, IA, Mary Lou (Richard) Runyon of Fairfax, VA, Carolyn Ladd, June Ladd, and Coleen McGriff of New Sharon, IA, and several loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ladd was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, "Bob", and her grandson, John Wilson.

Memorials may be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church of Webster City or the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
