Dean Powell, 76, of Webster City, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Van Diest Medical Center. A gathering will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Foster Chapel. Visitation will start at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Wilbur Dean Powell, son of Riley and Bernice Daniels Powell, was born November 16, 1933 on a farm near Lehigh. He attended rural schools. In 1954, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Japan at the end of the Korean War. He moved to Webster City in 1958. On December 6, 1956, he married Toshiko (Peggy) Tanaka at Fukuoka City, Japan. For many years, he was a self-employed carpenter in the Webster City area. He also operated a blade sharpening business.
Dean is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and David Morris of Mission, KS; Bernice Kenaston of Aneheim, CA; son, David Powell of Des Moines; 7 grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Wiese of Athelstane, Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diane Burgin and brother, Donald Powell.
