Clara Louise (Grover) Short, of the Illini Towers, Silvis, IL, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, September 18th at Peace Lutheran Church, 20828 Friedens Road, Port Byron, IL, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will be in Friedens Lutheran Cemetery, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the Church. Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron, IL, is in charge of arrangements.

Clara was born September 21, 1915 on a farm near Wrenshall, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Asher and Jemima (Lacy) Grover. She was married to Clifford Melvin Short on August 24, 1935 in Rock Island, Illinois. They celebrated 58 years together before his death in 1993. Clara graduated in 1935 from Webster City High School in Iowa. They had one child, Sharon. Clara was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She was a stay at home Mom and assisted her husband with the farming. She loved her family and her flowers.

Clara is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Bass Carton and Mel Carton of Hampton, IL; two grandchildren, Lisa Bass-Larson, Silvis and Michael Bass, Milan, IL; five great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Grover; sisters, Edith Smith, Alice Jackson and Mary Craig.
