Death of Iver Johnson
Stanhope Record: Postmaster Iver Johnson, one of Stanhope’s most highly respected and esteemed citizens, passed away Monday evening at 9:40 o’clock, after about three months’ serious sickness of colitis and cystitis. Mr. Johnson had been in poor health for a long time, and this winter he has gradually been growing weaker. Everything that medical aid and careful nursing could do for him proved in vain and for some time his death had been anticipated at almost any moment. His wife and children were all with him at the end.
Iver Johnson was born in Satre Sogn, Norway, August 19, 1854, and died at his home in Stanhope, January 16, 1911 at the age of 56 years, 4 months, and 27 days. In June 1869 he came to America, locating in Clear Lake Township where he has ever since resided. He was married to Miss Ida S. Berggren on March 1, 1879. To this union 13 children were born, seven of whom preceded him to the Great Beyond. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife and six children, Edward, Imbert, William and Clarence, and Emma and Iva. Since 1907 he has been postmaster at Stanhope, a position which he has always filled with a faithful fidelity to duty that has earned him the highest approval of everyone. His loss is sincerely mourned by hosts of friends all of whom sympathize with the family in their bereavement.
