Carl Berglund, 94, of 485 Adams Street in Stanhope, Iowa passed away at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames on Monday evening, March 8, 2010.

Carl was born southwest of Stratford, Iowa on the home place on April 22, 1915 the son of Emil and Carrie (Wistrom) Berglund.

On July 20, 1966, he married Marilyn Gross at the Lutheran Church in Stratford, Iowa.

Carl was a 1934 graduate of the Stratford High School. Following graduation, he began farming. On December 7, 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he was a mechanic on P-38's, serving for 4 years before being honorably discharged.Carl returned to Stratford and continued farming until his retirement in 1982, when the couple moved to Stanhope, Iowa.

Carl was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Directors, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served as Church Treasurer for a number of years. He was a member of the Swedish Club and a 50 years plus member of the American Legion Frederick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford In the past, Carl enjoyed playing golf, puttering on old motors and repairing lawn mowers.

His parents, 2 brothers 4 sisters, 2 step-brothers, a niece and 2 nephews preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn; a sister Ardelle Phipps of Stratford, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law Calvin Gross of Orange, California.

Services will be held on Friday afternoon, March 12th at 1:30 p.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford with Pastors Joe Lambert and Carroll Lang officiating.

Interment and presentation of the flag by the American Legion Frederick Sonksen Post #576 will be in the Hardin Township Cemetery southwest of Stratford.

Friends may call at the Stratford Lutheran Church on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present to greet friends.Visitations continue on Friday at the Church, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
