Mary Johnson, 81, formerly of 1124 Moore Street in Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford on Wednesday evening, November 18, 2009 where she had been a resident since August of this year.

She was born on December 16, 1927 in Stratford, Iowa the daughter of Everett and Mabel (Carlson) Bergman.

On August 10, 1946, she married Orland Johnson at Ft. Dodge, Iowa.

Mary graduated from the Stratford High School. From 1968 until 1978, she was the bookkeeper for the Stratford Oil Company, which she helped her husband manage. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and loved spending time with friends, family and especially her grandchildren.

She was a member of the Stratford Baptist Church where she was active in WMS, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Her parents; husband Orland in December of 1980; daughter Joan Orla; grandson Todd William Burns; and a sister, Gloria preceded her in death.

Survivors include 3 daughters Ann Burns and husband Steve of Ankeny, Karen Palmer and husband Kirk of Stratford, and Sondra Johnson and husband Steve of Stanhope; a son Dick Johnson and wife Pearl of Stratford; 11 grandchildren Lonnie Demien of Eufaula, Alabama, Penny McGee of Purcell, Oklahoma, Jennie Leiviska of Corpus Christi, Texas, Stacy Young and husband Mike of Des Moines, Tim Burns of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Angie Primmer and husband Rob of Boone, Tanya Palmer of Clinton, Iowa, Mindy Yingst of Woodward, Iowa, Terry Richardson of Fraser, Iowa, Stefanie Ketelsen and husband Jeremy of Marion, Iowa, Trent Johnson and Jill Wittenberg of Ankeny, Iowa; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister Fran Jenkins of Stratford; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Saturday afternoon, November 21st at 1:30 p.m. at the Stratford Baptist Church with Pastor James Mead officiating.

Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford.

Friends may call at the Stratford Baptist Church on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family for a memorial to be determined at a later date.
