Merle Hemnes, 94, of Stanhope died September 19, 2009 at Crestview Manor in Webster City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009 at 10:30 am at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. Burial will be in the Roland Cemetery.

He was born October 7, 1914 in Roland to Magnus and Frances (Anderson) Hemnes. He was a WW II veteran serving in France and Germany as a tank driver and he was awarded 5 bronze stars while in the service. He farmed near Stanhope for many years. In 2003 he moved to Webster City to Crestview Manor.

He is survived by a sister, Myrtle Peterson of Salem, OR.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Floyd, Fred and Andrew and two sisters, Esther Christian and Abby Thompson.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe made to Roland American Legion Post #307.
