Gerald Hanken, 101, of Webster City, died Friday, July 10, 2009 at Crestview Senior Living. Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.
Gerald Hanken, son of Gill and Mary Lachmiller Hanken, was born October 21, 1907 on a farm north of Kamrar. He moved with his parents to the Hanken family farm northwest of Kamrar. He received his education in rural schools and graduated from Lincoln High at Webster City in 1926. He spent some time in California then returned to Iowa and began farming with his father. In 1942, he was united in marriage to Ruth Stepp at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City. The couple farmed on the Hanken family farm, from which they retired. Mrs. Hanken died August 25, 1997. He had resided at Crestview since June of 2006.
Gerald is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Hanken of Webster City; son and daughter-in-law, David and Susan Hanken of Ankeny; grandchildren, Sarah ad Matthew Hanken of Ankeny; great-grandson, Kalven Hanken; nephews, Wilbur Wurch and Francis Garth; nieces, Mary Hartwig and Helen Lee.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son in infancy; sisters, Helen Wurch; Hulda Garth; Mae Bealmer and Gertrude Johnson.
Mr. Hanken was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hamilton Hospital or Crestview Senior Living.
